Sorcerer's Apprentice Playing Cards by Douglas Fuchs - Holographic Gilded
Penguin Magic
A legend, reborn in paper and ink.
More than two centuries ago, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe imagined a world where magic slipped just beyond control in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. That same spirit—wonder, danger, and discovery—now lives again in a deck of cards crafted as a tribute 225 years in the making.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Playing Cards are a striking blend of story, function, and beauty. Designed by Douglas Fuchs and art directed by Kevin Reylek, every card is illustrated in a bold woodcut style, echoing old-world prints and timeless folklore. The backs depict the spellbook, enchanted brooms, and rising waters—and hidden in plain sight is an openly readable marking system that lets you know the suit and value of any card at a glance.
This is an ultra-limited gilded version of the Sorcerer's Apprentice playing cards. A holographic silver sparkle foil has been applied to the edges of the cards to add a magical, premium look & feel to the deck.
The faces are richly customized yet instantly familiar, making the deck just as practical for magic and games as it is stunning to look at. Courts perform subtle feats of magic, Jokers feature iconic imagery from the tale, and the colors are carefully chosen—deep reds for Hearts and Diamonds, cool blues for Spades and Clubs—for clarity and contrast.
The tuck box is a work of art on its own. Printed on premium matte blue paper, it features the Sorcerer mid-spell, with white foil stamping inside and out, and is sealed with an individually numbered silver foil sticker—a quiet nod to its limited nature.
Handling is everything, and this deck delivers. Printed on casino-grade European card stock with UltraLux™ Finish and AquaFlow™ Coating, the cards are traditionally cut, perfectly textured, and ready for serious use straight out of the box. Durable, elegant, and environmentally mindful, they’re made with vegetable-based inks and water-based coatings.
This isn’t just a themed deck—it’s a story you can shuffle.
A spell you can practice.
A secret you can hold.
With only 400 decks printed, the Holographic Gilded Sorcerer’s Apprentice decks won’t wait forever. When magic calls, it’s best to answer while you still can.
